Noise and Vibration Courses and Training Modules - from Briefings to Full Competency
| "... superb ... the best course I have ever been on ..." |

The INVC is the IOSH approved noise and vibration (HAV) training organisation - and the largestsupplier of competency training in the UK and Ireland. We run general courses for IOSH and for several other training organisations as well as customised in-house versions for many major companies across a wide range of industries. All courses are run by practicing consultant engineers with many years of experience in the field. This makes the training highly practical (with a minimum of academic content) and therefore very effective. All course material is multi-media with matching course notes.
New - Music and Entertainment Industry Noise Competency Training
The new noise regulations apply to the music and entertainment industry from April 2008. Meeting the requirements is a challenging that requires a seismic shift in attitude and practice across the industry. This practical 3 day music and entertainment noise competency course provides a pragmatic guide to best practice with extensive use of case studies from across the entertainment and music sectors with practical work involving both classic and contemporary examples.

NOISE TRAINING
INVC training couples state of the art training modules with additional technical and engineering support during implementation. This can include template documentation and systems to ensure you get the maximum benefit from acquiring and implementing Best Practice and Best Technology. The modules below are the “standard” range. Customised versions are run regularly for particular industries - new or modified modules can also be provided to suit particular requirements. Courses carry CPD points and certification where appropriate.
1 Noise Management Best Practice Briefing
A short, intensive course for companies that wish to update policy to reflect current “best practice”. Based on material developed for the HSE/EEF road-shows to launch the new regulations, this "best practice" briefing can dramatically change your approach to noise management in just an hour.... “presentation was superb”,“best presentation .. well done”...
2 Occupational Noise Competency (IOSH certified) 3 - 5 days
industrial noise competency: 4 - 5 days
entertainment and music industry noise competency: 3 days - New for 2008
A practical and enjoyable non-academic way of becoming a competent person under the regulations. The courses include a unique way of performing all noise calculations without maths or a calculator. They are available at a variety of venues with extensive practical work. In-house versions can be modular so that managers, staff, engineers and
operators can sit-in on particular elements as required.
The entertainment / music industry competency training course is specifically designed for EHO's, venues, broadcasters, orchestras and event organisers.
“...made noise measurement & calculations easy and both theoretical and practical sessions were superb... the best course I’ve ever been on.” Sean O’Sullivan : H&S Manager, Harris Irelan
“Excellent course, brilliant tutor with a hint of sarcasm, made it more fun” Graham Jones, Safety, Quality and Environment Advisor, London Underground |
3 Occupational Noise Competency Update; Digital Noise Assessment (DNA) 2 days
An advanced update and practical “refresher” for competent persons to ensure that techniques, materials and procedures are kept up-to-date.
4 Environmental Noise Competency (IOSH) 3 days
Ideal for anyone involved in environmental noise measurement, management or
control. This competency course ensures that delegates have a sufficiently detailed understanding of the principles so that they can apply their expertise to any environmental noise situation.
"As always with INVC courses, brings you up to speed with acoustics and makes it seem like common sense"
Paul Pearse Env. Control Officer, Colchester BC |
5 IPPC / ISO14001 Buy Quiet Management and Specification 3 - 4 hours
“ . . . probably the single most cost effective long term noise control measure a company can take . . . “. This in-house workshop is used in conjunction with the UK standard INVC template Buy Quiet documentation and procedures.
6 Noise Control; Noise Control for Engineers and Designers 1 - 3 days
These workshops include simple procedures that ensure you select the best solution to any noise problem and provides details of new, low cost engineering techniques and materials to reduce noise at source. The information in this course will not only change the way you and your company approach noise control, but should also reduce your costs by 50% - 90%.
The “for designers” version is aimed at engineers involved in the design and development of plant and equipment that requires reduced noise/vibration for technical, legal or marketing reasons. Provides delegates with a detailed practical knowledge of engineering techniques and materials. Often extended to include company specific project based work.
“Excellent course, presentation perfectly suited to our requirements. If only all courses were so enjoyable and worthwhile.” John Rowson, Project Engineer |
Noise Control
Magic Bullets for Source Control
There are engineering “Magic Bullets” available for some common noise problems. These are modifications that can simply be retro-fitted to existing plant to provide large noise reductions at source with no effect on access, maintenance or productivity - and with virtually no down-time.
These techniques (along with diagnostic procedures) are covered in our updated noise control courses with versions for end users and for designers / developers.
HAND-ARM VIBRATION TRAINING
7 Hand-Arm Vibration Management Briefing + Regulation Update 2 - 6 hours
There is no effective vibration PPE; symptoms are under reported; settlements are high (up to £200,000) and most assessments are inaccurate. This briefing shows you exactly how to manage the problem, providing delegates with a detailed programme of best practice to minimise both risks and costs.
“Presentation very good, especially short video clips; sharp and to the point.” Robert D'Arcy, Royal Botanic Gardens. |
8 Hand-Arm Vibration Competency Course (IOSH) 2 days
The vibration competency course combines the full management briefing (option 7 above) with a highly practical workshop covering the calculation of risk, instrumentation and accurate field vibration measurements on a variety of tools. It also covers the use of field vibration information from other hand-arm vibration database sources. IOSH certification is based on successful completion of a written test covering all aspects of the vibration training. Delegates can attend the briefing and workshop on separate occasions.
Whole Body Vibration Competency Course (IOSH)
This is an extension to the HAV competency course that adds the theoretical and practical workshop elements required to become competent in WBV measuremtns and rsik assessment.
EDUCATIONAL : MOTIVATIONAL : NOISE AND VIBRATION TOOLBOX TALKS
9 Hearing Damage Risk : Motivation and Protection 30mins. - 1 hour
Highly motivational material to encourage personnel to take the risks to their own hearing seriously - and to show them how to protect themselves. Includes graphic images and audio examples of damage, hearing loss and tinnitus plus the facility to perform a mass audiogram to demonstrate hearing acuity variation in the audience.
10 Hand-Arm Vibration Toolbox Talk 30mins - 1 hour
Graphic illustrations of the effects of vibration on the hands (using supplied props and procedures) to motivate and educate personnel as to the risks of working with vibrating tools. It also details the practical measures they can take to minimise the risks through personal behaviour and actions.
NOISE AND VIBRATION CD-ROMS : VIDEO
The short motivational courses on noise and vibration (items 9 and 10 above) are also available on CD-ROM. These make life easier for safety and training professionals by providing material and resources on CD for use in-house. They include multimedia elements and full script documentation. Support is also available as an initial INVC presentation to train trainers. Customised versions can also be generated if required.
11 Hearing Damage Risk : CD-ROM
12 Hand-Arm Vibration Toolbox Talk : CD-ROM
13 Noise Control : Video
Best practice illustrated with live projects
14 Noise Management : Video
Case studies - effective Noise Management in action
