ProTest - the Simple Production Noise and Vibration Testing Solution
The ProTest system is a deceptively simple combination of software, hardware and application expertise that facilitates installing manual or fully automated noise / vibration based production test systems for virtually any application. Key features include:
- the engineering expertise that is first used to determine the best measurement techniques for reliable fault detection and is then implemented in the software user control of test parameters, schedules, configuration and degree of interaction required by the operator integration of other parameters (temperature, speed, current ....) selective database storage for SPC etc
- low cost and reliable (PC based using off-the-shelf-component
We have developed a range of new analysis techniques for applications where conventional methods are insufficiently sensitive or reliable. These include gear knock detection, motor current and glass breakage algorithms.
Automated Gear Test System
ProTest is fitted to Gleason gear test machines to provide fully automated production testing of gear vibration. It not only provides pass/fail warnings on gear quality, but it also automatically calculates the optimum pinion position for quiet running. It not only stores gear data, but also data on the mechanical condition of the gear test machine itself.

Mini Sounder Quality Control
 ALPHR Technology has integrated the ProTest system into their automated end-of-line BMW Mini console function test station installed at UK-NSI. It applies stored expertise to convert subjective human judgments about the quality of the warning sounder "bleeps" into quantifiable objective test data and detects subtle faults that could cause premature failure. The sophistication of the technology provides accurate discrimination despite background noise from other plant. As the noise tests can be carried out during other functional tests on a standard test rig without a conventional, high cost acoustic enclosure, the considerable productivity and cost benefits compared with conventional measurements have reduced the pay-back time to a matter of weeks.
Engine Dampers
Automatic detection of incompletely filled dampers on the production line using noise analysis.
Vacuum Pumps
Bar code driven automated sound power and vibration signature production testing of all pumps (including temperature and speed control). The diagnostic facilities have also been used to improve pump assembly techniques and therefore build quality. The vibration signature database is used to aid fault identification in the field.

Automated Sound Power Measurement
The system developed for JCB is used all year round in all weathers to provide automated sound power measurements from an array of 6 microphones (noise levels are captured and displayed in real time). It has not only worked perfectly from day one - "straight-from-the-box" - but it was also customised to provide exactly what the engineers wanted. We regard this as "standard practice" ....
