Remote Control of Noise Case Studies
EHO Instigated Garage Chiller Noise Control - by email
An EHO contacted us about a long-running noise complaint caused by chillers mounted on the wall of a garage - which had already been the subject of an unsuccessful attempt at noise control. He provided us with a sound file and the company sent us photos and technical details. We costed the solution based on an analysis of the file and past experience, and within a few days the garage was provided with detailed recommendations. Once implemented, the previously intractable problem was resolved entirely by email at a cost of a few hundred pounds.
Commercial Laundry Extract Fan Noise Control
The noise from this extract fan was the cause of complaints from nearby residents. The conventional approach involves: site visit to carry out noise measurements and analysis; review of fan installation; specification of silencers and enclosure; second site visit following installation to assess performance; reporting. Remote control: we provided instructions for recording the fan sound and for the required fan dimensions. We analysed the recordings and provided detailed drawings for the fan modification. A single site visit was made to check installation and measure the performance - 20-30dB reduction in tonal content (see tonal analysis plot), eliminating the problem. The remote process itself saved c£1k, whilst the source control modification (in place of enclosure/silencer) saved a further £3k (and without the increased running costs). Moreover, whole process was completed within a few days rather than a few weeks.
